Life Egg
Life egg is my take on the journey through life. The sculpture is a visual and tactile piece.
The journey begins at the top of the egg, where the baby’s head is attached to an umbilical cord.
The cord disappears into the egg and re-emerges at the bottom.
As it takes it journey around the egg simulating time, the cord gets rougher to express age.
On the eggs surface you will experience texture change along with puzzle shapes which have been cut out to represent the times in life where the pieces don’t fit.
In the journey up the umbilical cord you will also experience portholes expressing looking out on life.
At the end of the journey of the umbilical cord the rough texture leads to a double face expressing middle and old age bursting through the shell of the egg.
The cord gets darker as you travel your journey through life.
Where are you on life’s journey?
This piece is approximately 30 inches tall and made from terracotta crank, and has been exhibited at the Attic Gallery in Ruislip, and the Barn in Ruislip.
