sharing ceramics with others as therapy and self-development
I discovered Ceramics at a very difficult time in my life. Loosing my sight, self confidence and self esteem. Ceramics helped me express my feelings through clay, which felt both mentally and physically very good. I feel that it is important for me to share and encourage other people to explore their inner artistic flair.
I have taken these sentiments forward in different ways.

CERAMIC LECTURES
In 2010 I was asked by the Latimer Project, based in Hammersmith, if I would give a lecture and demonstration to sighted artists to encourage them to consider sculpture from a blind persons perspective. By blindfolding the artists they experienced the sculptures through touch alone and formed an opinion about the piece. It was interesting for them to explore if their thoughts and feelings about the piece changed once their blindfolds were removed.
Furthermore the artists and myself entered into a question and answer session during my demonstration which brought about a sharing of how my sculptures developed. For example how an idea developed as well as the mechanical process of creating with clay

ceramics in the community
I am the chair of my local ceramics group for the visually impaired and the elderly. I am committed to sharing my passion for ceramics in the hope that it will encourage others to explore their creative side and bring people together.
The benefits of working with clay for blind and visually impaired people is that it can enable people to express themselves through a medium that is responsive to touch and encourages personal development, especially at a time of personal challenges. It can push people to overcome boundaries and experience new achievements.
Older people appear to benefit from ceramics too,not just mentally but physically, not least of which is improving dexterity in their hands.
Anyway - doesn't everyone like playing with Mud!!
